In Memoriam

Black and white portrait of Norman Mineta

We mourn the death and celebrate the life of our 05 Saves Lives Coalition Founding Chairman, the Honorable Norman Y. Mineta (November 12, 1931 - May 3, 2022) who was the longest serving Secretary of Transportation in US history (2001-2006).  Before it was a catch phrase, he was “present” with every person he met and his sense of humor was legendary. It was his secret to a happy, full life. Secretary Mineta was a statesman and the voice of action for road safety worldwide.  Our current shift to a more balanced safe system approach had its genesis under his guiding hand and we are grateful for his support in preventing deaths and injuries through .05% BAC Laws. We send our heartfelt condolences to Deni Mineta and the entire Mineta family. Farewell and thank you, Secretary Mineta.
